Everyone expects to feel differently when going to a new culture, but most don’t anticipate the impact of coming home. In fact, reentry stress is often more painful, begins sooner, and lasts longer than the stress of adapting to a new culture.

At the same time, reentry can be one of the greatest tools for developing leadership skills, peace of mind, adaptability and emotional strength you will ever experience.

State Department employees, Peace Corps and other service-oriented volunteers get a little assistance with ‘getting along’ in their host communities but almost none are counseled on how to get the most out of their experience once they’ve come back. I want to change that.
